Robinson & McElwee has announced that five Charleston-based attorneys have been recognized by their peers as West Virginia Super Lawyers. Law & Politics magazine compiles the annual list and selects candidates through surveys, professional achievement, and internal research. Lawyers throughout West Virginia were asked to nominate the best attorneys they’ve personally observed in action. The attorneys named were: David K. Higgins (Business/Corporate) Joseph M. Price (Employment & Labor) Timothy M. Miller (Civil Litigation Defense) Douglas C. McElwee (Real Estate)

Robinson & McElwee was honored by The Nature Conservancy in West Virginia at the recent Corporate Council for the Environment dinner held April 27 at Edgewood Country Club in Charleston. The firm was recognized, with other leaders in West Virginia's business community, for its continued support of the organization and conservation efforts in the state. William Porth, the firm's assistant managing member, accepted the award on the firm's behalf. Firm member Rob Lannan sits on the Board of Trustees of The Nature Conservancy in West Virginia.

On April 16, Governor Joe Manchin III announced that David Higgins would fill the 30th District West Virginia House of Delegates seat formerly held by Jon Amores. The governor praised Higgins for his contributions to West Virginia as a community leader and city council member. Higgins will be sworn in during a ceremony in the House chamber at the West Virginia State Capitol on April 18.

Dave Higgins will be re-elected to serve on Charleston's City Council this May. Dave had no opposition in the primary nor does he have any opposition in the general election. This will be his second four year term as the councilman from Ward 15 which is the South Hills area of Charleston.

As part of Robinson & McElwee's ongoing wellness initiative, employees of Robinson & McElwee, joined forces today to "Go Red for Women" in support of a national campaign sponsored by the American Heart Association. Like millions of Americans, RAM employees are wearing red today to raise awareness about heart disease in women, and to encourage women to take charge of their heart health.

Robinson & McElwee PLLC is happy to welcome Riley Romeo, William Marcum and Ryan Kennedy to the firm as associates. All are graduates of the WVU College of Law. Romeo, a Charleston native, and Marcum, a native of Logan, WV, will practice in the firm's Charleston office. Romeo will work in the litigation department, Marcum in the firm's corporate department. Kennedy, a Clarksburg native, is returning to his hometown after practicing in Pittsburgh. He will practice in the corporate department of the firm's Clarksburg office.

Robert George, the McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton University and Of Counsel to Robinson & McElwee PLLC, has been awarded the 2006 Sidney Hook Memorial Award by the National Association of Scholars in recognition of outstanding contributions to academic freedom and excellence.
