Bio

  • Associate, Robinson & McElwee, 2018
  • Summer Associate, Robinson & McElwee, 2016, 2017
  • Litigation Assistant, Stanley, Frank & Rose, 2015

As an advisor and advocate focusing on the laws governing corporate entities (and the fiduciaries who own and run them), Jonathon Stanley has successfully navigated many clients through the pitfalls and obstacles that can impede their efforts to run a business—inside or outside of litigation. Since joining Robinson & McElwee in 2018, Mr. Stanley has represented various businesses and individuals in resolving even their most complex legal disputes. Notably, he has become a competent advocate for businesspeople and their companies before the State’s trial courts, including the West Virginia Business Court.

Mr. Stanley was inspired to become a lawyer after working as a paralegal with the Houston-based law firm of Stanley, Frank & Rose. While there, he assisted in the litigation and arbitration of complex financial security fraud matters. He learned the exhilarating world of high-stakes business litigation—lessons he has carried with him today.

In addition to his corporate litigation experience, Mr. Stanley’s practice also extends to corporate structuring and strategic planning, insurance matters, utility and other regulations, and representation of both plaintiffs and defendants before all three levels of the West Virginia Court system, as well as before regulatory bodies like the West Virginia Public Service Commission. Exceptionally skilled in a courtroom environment, Mr. Stanley has advocated for clients of all kinds in both State and Federal Court and before administrative law judges.

Mr. Stanley worked as a Summer Associate with Robinson & McElwee for two summers. At the same time, he studied law at Washington & Lee University, where he served on the Law Review Editorial Board and graduated with honors. While in law school, he competed in a national mock trial competition, had work published in the Law Review, worked as a Student Attorney at the Virginia Capital Case Clearinghouse, and was an active member of the Federalist Society.  He was inducted into the Phi Delta Phi Legal Honor Society in 2016.  He was honored with the school’s “Pro Bono Public Service Award” for significant service to the community as a student.

Professionally, Mr. Stanley remains involved with the Federalist Society and is a member of the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia and the J. Reuben Clark Law Society.

Mr. Stanley attended Brigham Young University as an undergraduate and holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees in History and Russian, respectively, and a minor in Anthropology. While he now calls West Virginia “home,” he is a native of Utah and has lived stateside in Minnesota, Texas, and Virginia. He also lived in Western Siberia for two years and is fluent in Russian.
