Attorney Robert P. George, Of Counsel to Robinson & McElwee PLLC and Princeton University’s McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence, received the Presidential Citizens Medal at a ceremony at the White House on December 10. A distinguished constitutional scholar, George is the director of Princeton University’s James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions and a member of the US President’s Council on Bioethics. Last spring he received the Heritage Foundation’s $25,000 Salvatori Prize for American Citizenship for embodying the virtues of America’s founders.

Robinson & McElwee sponsored is 2nd Annual Employer Advocate Seminar on September 5th at the Bridgeport Conference Center at Charles Pointe in Bridgeport, West Virginia. The free, half-day seminar featured three panel discussions about the ways businesses can prepare for requests to produce electronic information, includings e-mails, word processing documents, and financial data, as well as a dicusssion of workers' compensation insurance and employment practice information. The seminar was well received.

Clarksburg member and Litigation chair, Steve Gandee, was inducted into the 2008 class of the Curtis Elam Athletic Hall of Fame at Glenville State College on Saturday, May 19. Gandee, known as “Reno” to his teammates and friends, is a native of Clendenin, West Virginia and Herbert Hoover High School . He graduated from Glenville State College in 1982. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his accomplishments as a member of the football and baseball teams.

Rob Lannan, Member, Energy & Environment, attended the ceremonial signing of Senate Bill 622 on April 2, at the West Virginia State Capitol. The bill, known as the Voluntary Rural and Outdoor Heritage Conservation Act, was passed on March 8 by the West Virginia Legislature. Led by efforts of the The Nature Conservancy, along with other partners from the conservation community, the legislation will provide dedicated funding for land conservation through the Outdoor heritage Conservation Fund.

Dave Yaussy (Chair, Energy & Environment) may not be the biggest liar, but he is the bigger liar. While his tall tale didn't net him the coveted "Golden Shovel Award," he did place second in the popular Liars Contest held during West Virginia's 32nd annual Vandalia Gathering. The popular event is hosted by Goldenseal Magazine. The top three winners receive cash prizes with the first place winner receiving the Golden Shovel trophy. Winners stories will be published in a future edition of Goldenseal.

Sporty family converts living room into basketball court By Julie Robinson for the Charleston Gazette JANE LEW - When Clarksburg lawyer Steve Gandee, 47, grew up in Clendenin, he and his two brothers played hotly contested basketball games in their small home's narrow hallway. They fashioned a basket out of a coat hanger and the orange mesh from onion bags and hung it at one end of the hall.

Richard W. (Rick) Gallagher, a member in the firm's Clarksburg office, has been apointed to serve on the thirty-two member board of trustees for Ohio Valley University. The university is a private, liberal arts college located in Vienna, WV. Mr. Gallagher has practiced law for over twenty-five years and is experienced in a wide body of legal matters; he is past counsel to the West Virginia Automobile and Truck Dealers Association.
