Clarksburg, WV – Robinson & McElwee associate Ryan Kennedy was elected the newest member of the Clarksburg City Council on January 28th.  Mr. Kennedy was elected by the six sitting members of the City Council, and the vote ended 5-1, in favor of Mr. Kennedy.

Thomas Moushey is the new president-elect of the Ohio state Bar Foundation, an organization that includes over 960 accomplished attorneys and legal professionals who are committed to promoting public understanding of the rule of law and improvements in the justice system.

Robinson & McElwee PLLC announced the addition of Mark Hayes and Beth Goodykoontz as its newest members on Monday.  Both Mr. Hayes and Mrs. Goodykoontz accepted the firm’s invitation to membership after previously serving in Of Counsel roles.  Mr. Hayes has been with the firm for 13 years, and Mrs. Goodykoontz has been with the firm for 9 years.

Robinson & McElwee PLLC has donated $4,500 to sponsor the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association’s Black Friday Adoption Event.  The firm initially began raising money in an effort to help the shelter while it was overcrowded a few weeks ago, however the amount raised exceeded all expectations. The donation from attorneys and staff at the firm will sponsor the adoption of over 60 animals to their forever homes on Friday, November 28th.

Edward J. George, a member of Robinson & McElwee PLLC, has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the National Association of State Lobbyists (NASL).  Mr. George also played an instrumental role in bringing the Association’s 2014 Annual Meeting to West Virginia, at the Greenbrier.

The recent decision in Alt v. EPA, confirming the application of the agricultural storm water exemption to West Virginia farmers in  federal court, will be applied in similar fashion in West Virginia state courts.  In Weaver Farms v. Mandirola, Judge Carl of the Pendleton County Circuit Court has affirmed that storm water runoff from farmyards does not require a NPDES permit.

(Alliance, Ohio) Bruce E. Smith, a Member of Geiger Teeple Robinson and McElwee PLLC, was awarded the Red Triangle Award from the Stark County YMCA at the annual awards dinner.

Every year, the YMCA recognizes an outstanding adult for their extended and exemplary service in positions of major leadership for the organization.  The Red Triangle Award is the top award given to a volunteer and the award represents the three sides of the YMCA triangle; spirit, mind and body.

Robinson & McElwee member Paul Papadopoulos has been named President of the West Virginia Humanities Council (WVHC).  Papadopoulos has been active in the WVHC for a number of years, and he previously served as the council’s Vice President and Secretary.

One of the most significant acts to come out of the 2014 West Virginia Legislature was Senate Bill 373, which authorized two new programs that will be of interest to many businesses in the state:  the Aboveground Storage Tank Act (the AST Act) and the Public Water Supply Protection Act (the PWSP Act).
